Security/Performance Enhancing
Functions
-
In order
to keep up with the growing technologies, we spent many
programming hours this month upgrading the security and
performance of
our code/databases. No noticeable changes in appearance of your sites
may be noticed, but new security measures as well as performance
enhancing features are in place to better
protect your site and our software against malicious intents and to
ensure your site is able to efficiently handle requests to the server.
January 2010
Users Plugin: Disabled user accounts will now automatically delete themselves if accounts remain inactivated for "X" number of days. Admin can control how many days they should be allowed to remain in the database under the General Settings icon in their control panel. Default is 30 days.

We are pleased to announce the release of our new Events Calendar. This
plugin has been completely redone from top to bottom and will require you to
review its setting ASAP in order to ensure the calendar is functioning in a
manner that you prefer. Below is a list of the new features you can expect to
find when you review the administrative options of your new plugin.
Events Calendar Enhancements
Updated, more modern look.
Allow admin to purge older events.
Be able to approve/decline events in bulk rather than one at a time.
Be able to have admin decide whether or not to allow users to submit items to
calendar, or if it is admin only.
Allow admin to decide if users should be logged in before listing events.
Registered users can click a \'remind me\' icon that will send them an email
reminder of this event. Reminders can be sent at either 1 day notice or three
day or seven day and allow the user to choose.
Customize the email sent to users when an event is declined (if preferred).
Allow admin to edit ad before approval if needed.
Allows admins more control of color scheme of calendar layout.
Allows users to view events as a list or in calendar style format.
Allows users to print the calendar.
We recommend you take a few moments now to color scheme your calendar in a
manner that is pleasing to you. Also look over the calendar\'s settings to ensure
you are allowing listings to be added in a manner with which you agree. To do
this, click the Calendar icon in your control panel, next click the Calendars
tab, then click the edit button related to your calendar. Review the settings
and make any changes you feel are necessary. An online tutorial for a complete
\"how to\" on this new plugin can be viewed anytime here: http://www.tutorials.bullseyesupport.com/pages/Calendar_plugin

Our User and Administrator Control Panels have been given a face-lift!
Below is a bit of background information on what this new change is and how exactly it works.
We felt that it was important to keep the User and Administrator Control Panels interface as responsive as possible -- The icons are now broken down into two parts:
Most popular options
More options...
Right now, the "more icons" are just hidden and can be instantly displayed when the "More icons..." link is clicked. To toggle back to fewer icons, the 'More options...' link changes instantly to 'Fewer options...' when clicked and vice-versa.
The icon-hiding feature applies to users' control panel as well. :)
It works by recording the frequency of page hits to each area in the control panel and gradually (over a period of time) it promotes/demotes icons to/from the most-popular-icons section. This is known as the 'smart system'.
You'll now find an icon named "Icons" in the control panel and when you click on it you can control which icons are always shown, which icons can be hidden if infrequently used and which icons should always remain hidden no matter how often they get used. This allows the admin to over-ride at any time the new 'smart system'.
Icon plugin icon:
Made an option so that the admin can decide whether or not this function can be applied to the user control panel as well as the admin control panel sections.
Allows the admin to FORCE certain icons to appear. For example, say this is a site which specializes in real estate. The admin may really like the idea of hiding all non-essential icons since they're not particularly relevant to real estate, but he may want the real estate icon to ALWAYS show up given that it's a critical part of his business.
For USERS:
Upon the first and second login, all icons are shown just as they have always been in the past.
Upon the THIRD (not second) login, the system looks at which icons were used by the user in the past 2 login sessions and hides the ones he didn't use. A tooltip is then displayed above the "More options" link saying "Your infrequently used icons have been hidden..." and explains how they can see the rest of the options.
The tooltip does not auto-hide and is shown every time the user access the icon index, it is only hidden when the user either clicks on the tooltip to acknowledge it or clicks "More options..." to see how the feature works, which ensures that he understands the concept.
We chose the THIRD login instead of the second, because we're not sure if one login session is enough to get a good feel for which icons the user is going to be using. It's important to wait until we have an idea of the user's habits, otherwise the system is just going to hide ALL of the icons except for Account/Logout which will just be a pain in the rear for the user rather than being helpful.
For ADMINS:
Unlike the user accounts, icon hiding is enabled on the very first login using a default icon preferences rule.
Upon the first login, the same persistent "Your infrequently used icons have been hidden..." icon is shown to the admin as in the user area. This will help to remind you that this change was made and a bug did not suddenly make the icons disappear. :)
Admin can also change settings applied in the
General Settings area titled:
Hide infrequently used icons for user accounts
Hide infrequently used icons for administrator accounts
These are easily enabled or disabled according to the admin preferences. Disabling these will ensure all icons are always seen... just as the system currently works for those who do not like new change. :)

We have found a stable, effective alternative for the rotator script for our Banners/Ad Zones plugin which will eliminate the issues with the clicking sound in IE permanently as well as the browsers History being filled up with each rotation (also an IE quirk).
The downside for this new banner rotator script is all the clients who have chosen to customize the Banners template in the Visual Settings --> Edit HTML section will be adversely effected - Primarily, this is limited to those who have changed their codes to display double images of the top/bottom banner rotators. Applying a script to auto correct these customizations was not possible. Contact the help desk if you need assistance with this issue.
We have also made a few layout changes to both the user and admin Banner areas to help clean it up and make it a bit more intuitive for users to add their banner images. These same tab style additions will be implemented throughout all areas of the control panel over the next several months in order to keep a clean, consistent look to your sites administration.
